Frisco ISD girls golfers were standout performers at the 5A Region II Golf Tournament this week, led by Lebanon Trail winning the team championship and Centennial’s Gabbi Bentancourt earning the individual title.
Lebanon Trail won the team title with a score of 625, which was 30 strokes better than the teams tied for second place, Highland Park and Midlothian. Centennial was fourth at 692. Lebanon Trail, the 4A state runner-up last year, won its second straight regional title and first in 5A.
"It was rewarding as a coach to see our girls hard work pay off and to witness the progress they have made as players over the past three years," Lebanon Trail coach Scott Carmichael said. "This group has set a foundation of excellence that all future teams will be measured by. I could not have asked for a better group to start our program off with. To think in the three years of the program, they have three district titles, two region titles and a state runner-up finish is pretty incredible."
Bentancourt won the individual title with a two-round total of 2-under 142 on the course at Rockwall Golf and Athletic Club. Lebanon Trail’s Olivia Mitchell was second at even-par 144. Other Frisco ISD golfers in the top 20 were Lebanon Trail’s Madison Phung (5th), Liberty’s Raleigh Davidson (6th), Lebanon Trail’s Ryan Ko (7th), Wakeland’s Sydney Williams (11th) and Lebanon Trail’s Dominique Gomez (18th).
Lebanon Trail’s team advanced to the UIL State Meet, which will be May 13-14 at White Wing Golf Club in Georgetown. The LT team will be joined by FISD’s individual qualifiers, Bentancourt and Davidson.
